Yasmina Khadra is the pen name of Algerian author Mohammed Moulessehoul. He was born on January 10, 1955, in Kénadsa, Béchar Province. At the age of nine, Khadra joined a military school and then graduated from the Cherchell Military Academy, after which he joined the armed forces as a second lieutenant. During his time in the army, he published novels under his real name. In 2000, after 36 years of service, Yasmina Khadra decided to retire from the military and devote himself to writing, and later on, he settled with his family in France. The following year, he published his novel The Writer, in which he revealed his true identity, followed by The Imposture of Words. He is known all over the world as his books have been translated into many languages and sold in almost 25 countries.
