• A South Korean producer and director, born in Chongjin, North Korea. He is the son of a prominent doctor of Chinese medicine. He studied at the Tokyo University of the Arts in...Read more Japan, before returning to Korea three years later. He began his film career as an assistant production designer on Viva Freedom!, the first Korean film produced after the country gained independence from Japan. His work flourished during the golden age of South Korean cinema in the 1950s and 1960s, and he has over 100 films to his credit, receiving the Golden Crown Cultural Medal. He produced works such as The Gardener (1998) and Samil Cheonha (1973), and directed works such as Sogum (1985) and I Love Mama (1975). He died on April 11, 2006, in Seoul, South Korea.
