Brother Tied (1998), Five O'clock Shadow, and Raw Footage were his first three movies,...Read more and they each earned a Goldfarb Award for best film. Following this, Raw Footage won both the Independent Film Channel's Award for Excellence in Student Filmmaking and a Special Deans Grant for Achievement in the Arts. He is known for Blue Valentine (2010), The Place Beyond the Pines (2012), and The Light Between Oceans (2016). He shared an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for Sound of Metal (2019).
