A British actor born in London, England, on September 14, 1910 and died on June 18, 1973 due to complications from surgery. Among his notable films are The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957), Ben-Hur (1959), Lawrence of Arabia (1962), and Zulu (1964). Hawkins started his career in the theater, and made his film debut in the 1932 film The Phantom Fiend, but during the thirties he focused more on theatrical roles. After his military service, he appeared in many films, such as The Black Rose (1950). Despite being diagnosed with throat cancer, Hawkins continued to work on films, even after he had his larynx removed, he resumed acting with his dialogue dubbed.
