American film director and cinematographer, born on April 25, 1895. He died on August 10, 1934. He made his debut at the age of 13 as a stagehand with director D.W. Griffith. His debut in cinematography was in the year 1920. Among his most prominent works is The Big House (1930). He was found dead in his beach house on August 10,1934 due to suicide.
