He is an American novelist, born in New Jersey, USA. He studied journalism at Northwestern University in Illinois and began writing professionally after he was twenty-one years old. He is well-known for writing the epic fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire, which went on to become an international bestseller and was eventually turned into the drama series Game of Thrones (2011-2019).
