American writer. He attended Pikesville High School in Maryland, then he joined the University of Maryland and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1979, he earned a PhD from the University of Baltimore, where he also studied law. He worked in the legal profession and taught journalism at New York University before he collaborated with astronaut Jim Lovell on the film Lost Moon: The Perilous Voyage of Apollo 13. He is known for Apollo 13 (1995), A Year in Space (2015), and 95 Worlds and Counting (2000).
