An Indian director, born in Lahore, India. He worked as a chartered accountant in London before returning to his home country to become an actor and director. His early successful works include Masoom (1983) and Mr. India (1987), then Bandit Queen (1994), The Four Feathers (2002), and Elizabeth (1998), which was nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Cinematography.
