Sofia Margarita Vergara was born on July 10, 1972 in Barranquilla, Columbia. While growing up in Columbia she attended a private bilingual school that taught both English and Spanish. Vergara started her career in acting and modeling after she was discovered by a photographer on the beach in Colombia. She was offered numerous job opportunities in television and made her first public appearance in a Pepsi commercial at the age of 17. Before she turned 20, Sofia moved with her family to Bogota where she began to work in television, making a name for herself in Latin American market. Sofia has played various roles in cinema, television and theatre, but her most important role to date is in the American comedy series Modern Family.
