American actress, born in New York, USA, to Russian immigrant parents. Her son is the actor and director Albert Brooks. In the early 1930s, she sang light opera on the radio and in nightclubs in New York, then moved to Hollywood. She is known for New Faces of 1937 (1937) and Modern Romance (1981).
