American novelist and screenwriter born on 11 October 1925 in New Orleans, Louisiana, US. He specialized in crime and suspense thriller novels and short stories. He earned a bachelor's degree in English and philosophy from the University of Detroit in 1950. Many of his works have been adapted into films and series, such as Get Shorty (1995), Out of Sight (1998), Justified (2010-2015), and Jackie Brown (1997). He married 3 times and had 5 children. He died on 20 August 2013 in Bloomfield Township, Michigan, US.
