American actor, born on July 5, 1928 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, USA. He attended high school in Louisville, moved to the University of Louisville to study medicine and volunteered for military service with the US Marines. At college he became interested in theater, and in 1954, he starred in several plays for Little Theater Company. He got a chance in New York City to produce a live television series, Studio One, in 1957. Among his most prominent works are: Two-Lane Blacktop (1971), and The Wild Bunch (1969).
