A British writer and novelist, born in County Mayo, Ireland. He later moved to Lancashire, England. He worked as a weaver and a truck driver before he began writing professionally. He became famous through plays, novels, short stories, and children's books. His literary work includes "One Small Boy" (1957) and "The Goalkeeper's Revenge" (1961). Some of his credits are The Family Way (1966) and Alfie (2004).
