An American actor, born in Pennsylvania, USA. His father was a store clerk father. He attended Dickinson College, worked in Broadway theaters in New York State, and toured with theater companies for several years before appearing in films in the early 1930s. His first appearance was in the film Dangerous Nan McGrew in 1930, and his work continued abundantly in secondary roles. He also appeared in eyeglass advertisements on television.
