An American playwright, born in Ossining, New York, USA. He graduated from Hamilton College in 1951 and began his career as a journalist, working for The New York Herald Tribune and The New York Times. Some of his notable plays include Annie (1977), I Remember Mama (1979), Annie Warbucks (1992), and Cry-Baby (2008). He died on 21 August 2017.
