Japanese artist, born in Tokyo in 1932. After studying at Tokyo University of the Arts, in 1960, he and other artists formed the "Neo-Dada Organizers." The group was known for its highly innovative events and artwork made from waste. In 1969, he traveled to the United States on a scholarship from the John D. Rockefeller III Fund, and has lived in New York ever since. In 2012, the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at the State University of New York, hosted his first exhibition outside Japan of his earlier work.
