American actress and singer, born in Gastonia, North Carolina, United States. She graduated from Winston University, North Carolina, then worked as a singer and presented the jazz style of music. Her first screen appearance was in The Color Purple (1985). She is known for Devious Maids (2013) and The Blind Side (2009).
