Nizam Najjar was born in 1980. He grew up in Syria, Libya, and Sudan then moved to Norway in 2002 and lived in Oslo. He graduated from Lillehammer University College and Volda University College, Directing Department. His documentary film Diary from the Revolution was the first film that he directed in 2011. In the film, he relied on the experience he had gained while filming a military group in Misrata during the Libyan revolution.
