A French cinematographer and filmmaker born in Boulogne-Billancourt, France. His father sent him to study in the United States, and he graduated from the École nationale supérieure Louis-Lumière in 1953. He worked as a jazz musician during the 1940s and 1950s. He was awarded the César Award twice and was the recipient of an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters and a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in France. Among his credits are King of Hearts (1966), Be Seeing You (1968), and Le Sauvage (1975). He died on July 4, 2019 in Arles, Bouches-du-Rhône, France.
