An American actor, born on February 17, 1914, in Worcester, Massachusetts. He was nominated for an Academy Award 5 times throughout his career. He made his debut in 1940 in the movie City for Conquest. He is best known for his roles in Champion, Peyton Place, Bright Victory, and Lawrence of Arabia. He died on January 5, 1990, in Connecticut, United States.
