A British actor, born in London, England. He is the son of an officer in the Royal Irish Guards. He studied at Clifton Crawford College and also at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. His first appearance was in the movie Brown on Resolution (1935). During World War II, he joined the Irish Guards but suffered a major injury. Later, he returned to continue his artistic career. He is known for The Face of Fu Manchu (1965) and Lawrence of Arabia (1962).
