A British actor, born in London, England. He was the son of an officer in the Irish Guards. He studied at Clifton College and also at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. His film debut was in Brown on Resolution (1935). During World War II, he joined the Irish Guards but suffered a major injury. Later, he returned and resumed his career. He is known for The Face of Fu Manchu (1965) and Lawrence of Arabia (1962).
