An American writer, born in Brooklyn, New York. He rose to prominence in the literary scene in 1996 through his memoir, "The Color of Water", which tells the story of his Polish immigrant mother and his African-American father and their racial persecution they endured. His third novel, "The Good Lord Bird" (2013), also addressed racial issues. It won the National Book Award in 2013. His credits include The Good Lord Bird (2020) and Red Hook Summer (2012).
