A Canadian actor, born in Hamilton, Ontario. By the 1970s, he began appearing in art theater in Toronto and England, and in 1976, he participated in a workshop at the University of Western Ontario. His first television appearance was in The Great Detective in 1979. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Dances with Wolves (1990). His works include Wind River (2017), Maverick (1994), and The Green Mile (1999). He received an honorary doctor of law degree in 2008 from Wilfrid Laurier University, Ontario, Canada.
