A French film director, born on April 25, 1941, in Lyon. He studied law and worked as a film critic. He later worked with director Jean-Pierre Melville as a production publicist. In the early seventies, he made his first movie. His notable work includes A Sunday in the Country (1984), Captain Conan (1996), and It All Starts Today (1999). He received many awards, including the Golden Berlin Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival for his movie Fresh Bait (1995).
