An American director, born in New York, United States. He started off by making documentaries and teaching. He also co-founded a Quaker high school in Deerfield, Massachusetts. While teaching in Vermont, his love for documentaries developed after he met Frances Flaherty, the widow of documentary film maker Robert Flaherty. He is known for In the Region of Ice (1976) and LBJ: The Early Years (1987).
