A British actor, born in South Africa. He was educated in the province of Natal in the same country, then began working on board a ship with a South African fleet during World War II, then worked as an accountant, before finding his passion in theatre. In 1948, he moved to London, where he worked for four and a half years on stage. He then began appearing in British films from the mid-1950s. He made his debut in Burnt Evidence (1954). His other credits include Splitting Heirs (1993) and Cromwell (1970).
