An American screenwriter, playwright, and academic theater professor, born in California, United States. He obtained his university degree in English from Stanford University, New York. He then joined a workshop to study playwriting, and before completing his studies, he wrote his first play in New York after studying under Sam Shepard and María Irene Fornés. Hwang's work has shed light on the problems of Asian Americans in general. Some of his credits include M. Butterfly (1993) and White Frog (2012).
