An American film director, producer, animator, and visual effects creator, born on June 29, 1920, Los Angeles, California, USA. He spent his early years experimenting with the production of animated shorts and is known for his distinctive fantasy effects shown in films depicting stories of Greek mythology and the Arabian Nights during World War II. Harryhausen served in the United States Army Special Services Division under Colonel Frank Capra, as a loader, clapper boy, and camera assistant. In the meantime, he was working at home on animated short films about the use and development of military equipment. His notable work includes The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973) and Clash of the Titans (1981). He died on May 7, 2013, in London, England, UK.
