An American writer, who is famous for writing detective novels. He was born in the city of Chicago, California, in the United States. He attended St. Ambrose Catholic High School until 1955, after which he joined DePaul University in Chicago, and obtained a B.A. in English in 1963. During his college years, he worked as an editor in the Washington Post newspaper, then continued his professional career after joining the United States Army.
