A British actor born in Ayrshire, Scotland, and grew up in Bedford, England. He attended Bedford Modern School, then studied at Verulam School in St. Albans. He obtained a Master's degree in English literature from the University of North Wales College. He studied for a doctorate at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. He is known for The Good Shepherd (2006) and The Bounty (1984).
