A British actress, born on November 7, 1950, in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. She attended London's Central School of Speech and Drama at the age of 21. She started appearing in plays as a professional actress in 1976. She is known for Under the Tuscan Sun (2003), About Time (2013), Sherlock (2014-2017), and Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014). She was nominated for and won many awards, including three nominations for a BAFTA TV Award.
