The character of the naive farmer which he created, in addition to his work on the radio, helped pave the way for him to appear on the silver screen. He made several films with the French comedian Louis de Funès, and also worked with major French stars. Among his most famous films are The Longest Day (1962), and Le Cercle Rouge (1970).
