An American theater producer, director, and choreographer who was known primarily for his work on Broadway, as well as in the field of dancing and ballet, but he also directed films and directed and produced television shows. Among his most notable works are West Side Story, for which he won an Oscar for Best Director, along with Fiddler on the Roof, Producers' Showcase, and On the Town. He died on July 29, 1998, in New York.
