An American actor, born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 15, 1918. He was awarded the Star in the Walk of Fame in 1960. He was married to actress Marjorie Hochelle (1954-1946), with whom he had two children. He graduated from Erasmus School and then took a course in drama. He joined a stock company for two years, before serving as an army officer in World War II. After his discharge from service, he worked in radio drama and comedies until he signed for Universal and became a star in the fifties. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in the movie Broken Arrow (1950). He continued to star in action films such as The Battle at Apache Pass (1952), and Son of Cochise (1954). He underwent a herniated disc surgery and died of blood poisoning on June 17, 1961 in Clover City, Los Angeles.
