A Malian actress, singer, and guitarist, born in Côte d'Ivoire. She began her acting career in cinema and on stage, appearing in several films since the late 1990s. She left her country at an early age to escape her family's control, settling in France where she became involved in music and played the guitar, encouraged by her compatriot Rokia Traoré. She found a deep passion in this art that led her to master playing and writing songs. She was invited to participate in albums by big names in the world of music such as Dee Dee Bridgewater, Mulatu Astatke, Herbie Hancock, and others. She also released a collaborative album with pianist Roberto Fonseca, in addition to her other works, including the album Fatou (2011). She played the role of Fatou in the movie Timbuktu (2014) by Mauritanian director and writer Abderrahmane Sissako. Her contribution to the film catapulted her to fame, as the film's music, composed by Tunisian Amine Bouhafa, won international awards and its songs became widely popular. She also appeared in Morbayassa (2014), Sia, the Dream of the Python (2001), and Genesis (1999).
