South Korean actress born on 19 June 1947 in Kaesong, North Korea. She studied Korean Language and Literature at Hanyang University. She made her acting debut in 1967. She is famous for being the first Asian actress since 1957, and the second of all time, to win an Academy Award, which she won for her role in Minari (2020). Her other notable works include The Housemaid (2020), The Bacchus Lady (2016), and Lucky Chan-sil (2019). She married once and has two children.
