A Japanese novelist, born in Tokyo, Japan. He mastered the French language and had been interested in literature since his childhood, as his teacher was the literary critic Kobayashi Hideo. He studied at Kyoto Imperial University and graduated from the School of Literature, then he worked as a journalist. His credits include Fires on the Plain (1959) and The Incident (1978).
