An Iranian director and writer, born in Tehran. She received a degree in film directing from the Dramatic Arts University in Tehran. Before directing several short documentaries until 1981, she worked as an assistant director for television since 1974, and directed her first feature film, Off-Limits, in 1988. She then directed Canary Yellow (1989) and Narges (1992), in which she collaborated with the filmmaker Fereydoun Jeyrani, and she received the Best Director Award from the Fajr Film Festival at the 10th Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran. She also directed The May Lady (1998), Under the Skin of the City (2001), Gilane (2005), Persian Carpet (2007), All My Trees (2015), and Touran Khanom (2019). She won the Best Director Award from the Iranian Directors Association for her film The Blue-Veiled (1995), and the Special Jury Prize at the Moscow International Film Festival for her film Under the Skin of the City (2001).
