Scottish actor born on 19 December 1923 in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. He began his career working in BBC radio programs as a child until he made his film debut in Somewhere in France (1942). His most notable works include The Great Escape (1963), Upstairs, Downstairs (1971-1975), and A Town Like Alice (1981). He married actress Rona Anderson and they had two children. He died on 15 January 1990 in South Kensington, London, UK.
