French writer and director born on 6 February 1932 in Paris, France. His most notable works include Day for Night (1973), The 400 Blows (1959), Jules and Jim (1962), and Shoot the Piano Player (1960). He was a co-founder of the French New Wave in cinema. He married once and had 3 children. He died of a brain tumor on 21 October 1984 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Hauts-de-Seine, France.
