American actor born in New York City, New York, USA on May 11, 1911. He received an Emmy Award in 1956 for his TV show The Phil Silvers Show (1955-1959), an Emmy Award in the same year for Best Comedian, and a star on the Walk of Fame for his TV work. He married actress Jo-Carroll Dennison (1945-1950), and after their separation, he married actress Evelyn Patrick (1956-1966), with whom he had 5 daughters, Tracey, Cathy Nancey, Candace, and Laury. He achieved comedic success on Broadway, and most of his theatrical works were adapted into films. His most important works include The New Phil Silvers Show (1963) and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963).
