American actor and writer, born in Hollywood, California, USA on July 31, 1929, as Donald Patrick Murray. He married actress Hope Lange (1956-1961), with whom he had two children, and married actress Betty Murray in 1962, with whom he had 3 children. He graduated from East Rockaway School in New York. He became a champion in athletics (sprint) and swimming, He served as a volunteer in the US Army in the Korean War. His most important works are Bus Stop (1956), A Hatful of Rain (1957), and Conquest of the Planet of the Apes (1072). He received a star on the Walk of Fame in 1960.
