American actress, born on October 21, 1895 in Nevada. She was working as a stenographer in San Francisco when Charlie Chaplin was working on his second movie with Essanay Studios. Chaplin discovered her and immediately signed a contract with her. She is known for The Tramp (1915), The Kid (1921), and Sunnyside Sunnyside (1919). She died on January 11, 1958, of throat cancer in Hollywood.
