An American actor, born on December 8, 1905 in St. Louis, Missouri. He started his acting career on stage, then started acting in films in the 1930s. His film debut was in the 1936 movie Bullets or Ballots. He appeared in the movies The Grapes of Wrath (1940), It's a Wonderful Life (1946), Road to Rio (1947), and Funny Girl (1968). He died on August 2, 1985 in California.
