An American director, born in Appleton, Wisconsin, USA. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and moved to San Francisco in the 1970s. His friendship with Robert Crumb led to their participation in presenting comic books, and then he began his cinematic career by making documentaries. He is known for Ghost World (2001), Crumb (1994), and Bad Santa (2003).
