He participated in World War II as a British soldier on the Asian front and was captured by Japanese forces...Read more and went to a prisoner of war camp. At some point, he was imprisoned for 6 months in the cooler for stealing a tin of corned beef, which inspired his role in the movie The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957). After his return from the war, he began his artistic career in London theaters, then moved to the cinema screen in the early fifties. He played the roles of British and American soldiers. He died on December 6, 1992, in Kent, England, United Kingdom of a heart attack. He is known for The Guns of Navarone (1961) and Mutiny on the Bounty (1962).
