An American actor, born in Illinois, on April 13, 1919. Howard Keel had an unhappy childhood as his father, a coal miner, was an alcoholic. After his father died when Howard was 11, the family moved to California. In 1946, he appeared on Broadway, then he went to England, where he sang and acted in London theaters. Thereafter he returned to America aftering signing on with MGM, winning his first starring role in Annie Get Your Gun (1950). Among his most notable work: Calamity Jane (1953), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954), The Day of the Triffids (1963), and the TV series Dallas. He died on November 7, 2004 in Palm Desert, California.
