An English writer, born in Lancashire, England. He attended Elliott Clarke School in Liverpool. He is the creator of the series Coronation Street. He was twenty-four years old when he presented his idea, and he remained an advisor on the idea until his death. He was also an actor and a writer of theatrical works and wrote several novels, including The Lights of Manchester (1991) and Behind Closed Doors (1996).
