In 1996, she wrote and directed her first English-language film Things I Never Told You and received her second nomination at the Goya Awards for Best Original Screenplay. She achieved global success in 2003 thanks to her film My Life Without Me. Her film The Secret Life of Words (2005) won four Goya Awards for Best Film, Director, Production and Original Screenplay. Her film Endless Night starred Juliette Binoche, Rinko Kikuchi, and Gabriel Byrne. The film opened the 66th Berlin International Film Festival.
