American actress, born on April 15, 1908 in Hollywood, California, USA. Her father was of Scottish descent and her mother was of Hispanic descent. She began her acting career in The Kid (1921). She began working with Charlie Chaplin in Hollywood when she was 12, participating in little parts in some of his films. Three years later, at 15, Chaplin met her again, and a serious relationship between the pair developed as Chaplin was filming The Gold Rush (1925). They divorced on August 22, 1927, and she appeared in a few films before her death of cancer on December 29, 1995.
